Having secured a win in last week's opener the Frome RFC 2nds started brightly against a relatively unknown Chippenham RFC 2nd XV.

Following a great scrum won against the head, the backs had a early run, with fullback Kyle Williamson kicking ahead and winger Luke Stanley able to out-run the defence and touch down with only two minutes gone.

From the kick off, the forwards dominated the visitors with some great drives from every phase. The constant pressure eventually gave and forward drive saw Mark Regler crash over.

Confidence was high and following the kick off, Frome found themselves with a great field position.

Chippenham struggled to hold back the next attack and captain Gordon Grierson crossed the touchline to dot down, the returning Ben Eley adding the extras.

Chippenham looked to threaten when they had the ball in hand but a clever read by centre Ben Tiley saw him intercept a pass and offload to Tom Duckworth who, on the 20-minute mark, crossed over the line for a try.

The half hour mark saw a lapse in concentration for the home side which allowed Chippenham to capitalise on a mistake and score in corner.

Spurred on the by the opposition scoring, Frome came back with vengeance and No.8 Cameron Hastie broke the line at pace to dot down for a try while seeing off several would be tacklers. Eley added the extras.

The heat began to be an issue but Frome still dominated the collision areas and the scrum. The visitors deserve credit as they never held back and increased their line speed and tackle count.

The home side began to throw the ball about, but this did mean they lost their shape, although on the hour mark the visitors couldn't keep Frome out and with some great support play flanker Milton touched down to score.

Frome again attacked and just as it seemed Stanley was about to score his second, play was pulled back for foul play which saw players from both sides taking 10 minutes in the sin in.

This, however, didn't dampen the mood of the game which was played in great spirit. And finished with Frome securing two wins from two.

Final score:

Frome RFC 2nd 43 - 5 Chippenham RFC 2nd

The Man of the Match awards, sponsored by the Old Bath Arms, Frome, went to scrum half Harry Burge and flanker Tom Duckworth.

Next Saturday (28th September) the 2nd XV face local rivals Trowbridge RFC 2nd XV away.
