Frome RFC firsts did not expect an easy match against Dorchester

Frome RFC hit the road this weekend as they returned to league action following a week's break. And after a convincing win against Corsham in their last fixture, Geoff Taylor's Men looked to continue winning ways.

Frome have never had an easy ride away to Dorchester, with many tough fought battles in the past. It was the home side who were first to score with a converted try around the 10min mark.

However the lead short lived, and 10mins later Scrum Half, Zach Bartlett crossed over for a converted try by Winger Henry Bull.

The visiting defence was being tested, but with the Forwards battling hard they soon gained valuable field position for the backline to break through and attack.

It was Flanker Stevan Randall who was on the scoreboard next with a trademark strong carry to crash over, Bull adding the extras.

The second half started well for the visitors, and continuing where they'd left off worked themselves well into the Dorchester half.

5mins in Hooker John Benstead would next be on the score board as he darted over wide to dot down in the corner. Unfortunately the conversion attempt going just wide.

Dorchester continued to threaten and after looking to build again, the ball was intercepted and the home side crossed over for a try on 50mins.

With the Frome interchanges underway, it was replacement Forward, Josh Hills who next crossed the line, with several would be tacklers Hills crashed through to score wide on the hour mark.

The home side fought back and caught Frome napping, a break through the line saw them score again.

Frome regained composure, and with some clever play from Zach Bartlett who dropped a little kick over the top into space, which Fly Half, Simon Westlake caught to dive over and score in the corner. The conversion unfortunately dropping just short.

The I.M.S Limited Player of the Match was awarded to Scrum Half Zach Bartlett.

A special mention must go to Rowan Walton who came off the bench to make his 1st XV debut, a product of the Clubs hugely successful Mini & Junior set up, its great to see them putting in the hard graft to work there way to the 1st XV.

Frome Captain, Geoff Taylor commented " This game was always going to be tough encounter and it proved to be just that.

Credit to all the players for their efforts and finding a way to win even when going down to 13 men for 10 minutes of the game.

The determination and passion the boys showed was excellent and after a tough start to our season we have now won five games in a row and we are now starting to progress in all the right directions.

We look forward to welcoming newly promoted side Weymouth & Portland to The Lane this weekend which we know will be another tough and closely contested match up."

This weekend Frome welcome Weymouth & Portland RFC to The Lane, a side they have not come up against for a number of seasons. A fairly unknown side, who've had a mix of results, and although Frome currently sit in 5th place, with Weymouth & Portland in 10th, Geoff Taylor's Men will certainly be expecting a stern test.
