Frome travelled to Royal Wootton Bassett for a friendly game; in the autumnal sunshine.

Frome started brightly and showed early aspiration, to move the ball wide. This includes clean breaks from Toby Cassidy and Zach Sibley.

Rob Norris, playing second row, spent the afternoon tackling at will. The pressure led to Bassett kicking loosely after 10 minutes. Winger Olly Merritt gathered the ball well and attacked down his wing, this is something he would do repeatedly and well throughout the game.

From the resulting breakdown, Alfie Newbery picked up and darted, before finding fly-half Archie Pearn. Bassett gave away another penalty. Next, a strike move gave Pearn space. He dummied and carried, before pinging a wide pass to Merritt to score well in the corner, for a 0 - 5 lead after 18 minutes.

The remainder of the half was a dogged chess game. Bassett kicked well from hand and landed two penalty kicks, but the Frome defence held firm for 10 minutes. The dam eventually burst with a try for the home side, from a driving maul. The half ended with Wootton Bassett taking an 11 - 5 lead.

The second half, began with more sustained Frome pressure. Their defensive line speed was epitomised by tackles from Freddie Corp, Alfie Rayers and Kieran Stacey. This was backed up by strong carries from Sibley and Harrie Webster.

After five minutes, the dominance told. Newbery and Harry Greenwood combined from the back of a scrum and Cassidy found himself in space, he rode two tackles and finished strongly under the posts. Greenwood converted for an 11 - 12 score line. A lead that Frome would never relinquish.

With the clock on 20 minutes for the half, Greenwood gathered a loose ball from a Newbery, Stacey double tackle. He span and turned the defence inside out, before off-loading to Stacey on his shoulder. With the extra's added, the score was now 11 - 19.

Wootton Bassett managed a penalty kick, to register their only points of the half. Minutes later, Sibley founds himself in space and sent a cross field kick to the winger Laurie White. White gathered well and darted to the line. He was narrowly prevented from scoring an excellent try.

Over the final ten minutes, Cassidy stripped a ball and sprinted to score an excellent individual try. Pearn put the gloss onto the victory, when he latched onto a loose ball and fly-hacked on. He showed real pace, to leave the defence floundering to round off an excellent victory, 14 - 33.
