Frome Tri Club members star at Midsomer Triathlon

Frome Tri Club members dominated the male race at the Midsomer Triathlon in Midsomer Norton yesterday (September 1).

Club members Harry Coomber and Keith Penny took first and second, ahead of Alexander Williams, of Oakhill, who is a member of Reflex Racing.

The male and female winners were both very talented youngsters. Overall female winner Daisy Davies, who was also first Junior, is only 17.

Overall male winner Harry Coomber, of Westfield, is only 21, and Alexander Williams came third on his 20th birthday.

The winners overall were:

1st Harry Coomber in 01:06:11 age 21 from Westfield. Harry is a member of Frome Tri Club. This was Harry's first win at triathlon.

2nd Keith Penny in 01:06:32 (winner in 2013 and 2017), also Frome Tri Club.

3rd Alexander Williams in 01:07:00, age 20, a member of Reflex Racing club, from Oakhill.

1st Daisy Davies in 01:07:24, age 17 (first Junior and first Overall Female), Team Proto-Col. Daisy is from Sherborne.

2nd Erin Jeffery in 01:09:33, age 29 (last year's winner), Team Proto Col.

3rd Lonneka Kertzman in 01:14:00 age 23, University of St Andrew's Tri Club, from Radstock.

In the Midsomer Triathlon, the swim was 400 metres, the cycle is 21k and the run is 5.5k.

Race organiser Ger Wood said: "We had 158 participants, and about one third were beginners.

"They were brave to tackle the hills around Kilmersdon on the bike."
