Scrappy match against some familiar faces as Frome Town FC take on a Devon army

There were some familiar faces lined up against The Robins on Saturday (September 3) and sadly it was former Frome Town FC player Kane Simpson scoring the goal against them for his new side Tiverton Town.

The Devon side also included former Robins' squad player Joe O'Loughlin, so it was a bitter sweet loss for the side which until now have been on blazing form.

The match, which also saw the Frome goalie taken off through injury in the second half, was one of missed opportunities after Number 9 for Tiverton, Kane, scoring early on. Tempers were certainly flaring and a decent crowd at the Robins' Nest not best pleased by many of the referee's decisions.

This is the team's match report :

Frome Town slumped to defeat in the FA Cup first qualifying round at Badger's Hill.

The home side had the best of the early exchanges with the visiting keeper spilling a shot from Humphries in the 3rd minute with Frome unable to capitalise and Starr curling a shot just wide in the 5th after some lovely build up play.

It was the visitors who took the lead however on 12 minutes as Frome appealed for a foul on half way play continued and a cross from the right was inevitably fired home by ex Frome striker Kane Simpson.

Tiverton should have doubled their lead right before half time but a last ditch sliding tackle from Maidment with the open goal beckoning averted the danger.

The second half was tougher and somewhat without incident with neither goalkeeper troubled, other than Locke having to leave the field injured and Maidment having to take his shirt for the last 10 minutes.

Tiverton shaded the game and deserved their victory and Frome need to focus on getting back to the standards they have set.
