On a sunny but fresh Sunday morning, Frome Under 16's travelled to Bath to play Walcot.
It was a very even and well matched game at the start, with both teams enjoying possession.
Skipper Oscar Stickley turned over a Walcot ruck to feed the ball to Kieran Stacey, Stacey broke tackles and passed to Alfie Newbery. Newbery fed Ewan Cox who was stopped meters from the line.
Only minutes after Frome had a dominated scrum, Newbery passed blind to winger Jonas Mills, Mills almost danced over the try line, but another brilliant tackle stopped him short.
The deadlock was broken on the sixteenth minute mark when prop Adam Hancock bulldozed over the try line for a five point lead.
It was Frome's turn to defend the home team, Walcot were awarded a five metre penalty that would be scored from a tap and go to make the score 7 - 5.
Stacey and Harry Greenwood put in some huge tackles as Frome showed they were the becoming the dominant side. Some excellent phase play saw Greenwood score under the posts, he converted his own try to make the score 7-12.
Frome would again score just before the break, Archie Pearn feed Greenwood on looping run, he offloaded to Zach Sibley, who would swan dive under the post. Greenwood added the kick. The half-time score was 19-7.
Frome continued where they finished the first half. Walcot cleared their lines and Toby Cassidy gathered the ball and ran hard at the Walcot defence. He then dispatched Josh Clarke, who ran quarter of the pitch to be stopped not far from the line.
Frome's next try would come from a well worked lineout which led to captain Stickley crossing the line for a 7-24 score line.
Centre partnership Aelfric Bidder and Sibley would began to run riot, with some huge carries through the middle they frequently offloaded to wingers Kacper Martynovic and Olly Merrit for many a run.
Jack Hayden-Grant enjoyed a carry down the middle of the park, he offloaded to Bidder, who fed Cassidy. The Frome fullback bamboozled his opposing number, to score his 1st try.
Greenwood added the extras.
By now, the floodgates were open and Frome were not going to let Walcot off the hook. Bidder took a quick tap to score.
The ball was secured all game by Rob Norris, Stuart Carpenter, and Sonnie Kerslake. In the second half, Laurie White was enjoying the quick ball he passed wide to Pearn who passed long to Sibley. Sibley sent a grubber kick and regathered for a good try.
Minutes later, Greenwood would get this second try when he collected some scrappy ball and score under the post.
Ben Freeman would ask questions of the Walcot defence but the Walcot defence held firm and clear their lines. The final try came when Pearn kicked and collect this to score under the post. Second row Kerslake kicked the final points of the day.
The score line ended, 7-57
Big thanks to Walcot for a very good game. Players of the match were awarded to Adam Hancock and Laurie White.
