On Sunday 21st January, the Frome RFC U16's welcomed Wells RFC to The Lane.

The game began with two early scrums and Wells attacking. Only two fearsome tackles from Rufus Phelps and Harrie Webster kept them at bay.

Minutes later, Wells were penalised. Full-back Zach Sibley tapped, swerved and passed wide to Ewan Cox who scored out wide for an early 5-0 lead.

After ten minutes, following dominant tackles by Freddie Corp and Aelfric Bidder, Pearn released the backs.

Toby Cassidy carried powerfully and Harrie Webster glided down the wing, before being tackled narrowly short of the try line.

Cassidy was foiled minutes later by an excellent tackle by Wells, following great defensive and offensive work by Cox.

Bidder scored from the resulting scrum, when a loose ball popped out and he scavenged the ball, before crashing over for a try.

With thirty minutes on the clock, Wells scored a well worked converted try, from close range. The half-time score was 10-7.

The second half began with a silky Frome inside ball from Pearn to Cassidy, who again was tackled agonisingly short of the line.

Wells took the lead minutes later, when a strong carry down the wing led to a try. They led 10-12.

Frome responded five minutes later, Harry Greenwood carried well from a line out set play and Pearn kicked well into the attacking third.

An attacking penalty was taken quickly; Alfie Newbery arched a pass towards Pearn who set Sibley into space, for a third try of the day for the home team.

The Frome scrum was now becoming an attacking weapon and two successive clean scrums gave a good platform.

A dominant carry from Captain, Oscar Stickley led to another attacking penalty. Bidder taped, fed scrum-half Newbery who found Phelps in space. The centre stepped inside and finished well.

The final act of an impressive win for the home side was a well worked try.

Stickley gathered up a loose ball and passed to Sibley. He found Jonas Mills outside of him and the centre finished powerfully from close range. Pearn converted the extra's, to make the final score 27-12.

Players of the Match were Freddie Corp and Rufus Phelps.
