Final score Warminster RFC 57 - 30 Frome RFC II

Report by Andy Vince

The Frome RFC 2nd XV made the short trip to Warminster after the Christmas break, and hoped to continue their performances after the previous win against Amesbury.

It was Frome who started the half brighter and took control of the ball, with some strong running and great off loads, allowed the space to open up for the backline and with some good inter passing between the back three, it was Full Back Pete Foley who crossed the line to score. The conversion was added by Captain Max Stickley.

This seemed to wake the home side up and Frome didn't really see the ball for twenty minutes, with Warminster dominating the play, and especially the set plays. With Warminster getting a push over try and converting the kick.

Warminster were causing Frome all sorts of problems, but defended strongly, but it was Warminster again who managed to suck in the Frome defence letting the Warminster Centre crash over for the try.

Warminster's pack had its tail up now and kept pressing forward, but again the Frome side defended well, keeping out attack after attack, but eventually Warminster managed to find a hold and scored another try.

Frome were not out of the contest yet and managed to counter ruck on the half way line, Fly Half Simon Westlake took the ball into the Warminster half and with two passes out wide, Stickley took it passed the last defender and scored the try. Converting his own try.

Warminster were awarded a penalty which they elected to kick making it 20-14.

Shortly after that Warminster were again awarded a penalty which again they decided to kick which was testament to how well Frome were defending.

Frome came back at Warminster again and were awarded a penalty themselves, which Stickley elected to kick.

Warminster then went back at Frome and at the end of the half managed to get themselves a break away try, made by an unbelievable off load by their young prop forward.

Unfortunately the half didn't start well for Frome, with Warminster hitting Frome with two very quick tries almost straight from kick off, which caused the Frome players to go off the boil slightly and take the game away from the visitors.

But Frome came back again with Fly Half Westlake jinking his way through the defence and sending the Warminster back line the wrong way and going over the line to score.

From the kick off the ball was caught by Flanker Owen Jones who took it up to the half way line, and then grubbed it through and managed to regain the kick, a few phases later Flanker Matt Smith found himself in space and ran the try in from the 10m line.

That would be the end of the come back with Warminster scoring again 47-27

Frome managed a penalty but Warminster managed to score two more tries making the final score 57-30.

Team Manager Andy Vince commented "A much better performance again and on another day we would be looking at a win, a very strong and organised Warminster side won today, but we can take a lot of heart from this performance."

Player of the Match was awarded to Simon Westlake, Billy James and Owen Jones.
