On Sunday (January 14) the Frome RFC U16s travelled to Bournemouth University, for a friendly fixture against Bournemouth RFC U16's.

The home team were on the attack immediately and a good tackle on the try line by Alfie Newbery led to a Rufus Phelps turnover. Minutes later Bournemouth crossed the line, after quick hands.

Captain Oscar Stickley and hooker Fred Corp kept Bournemouth at bay with great first up defence, but the dam eventually burst and Bournemouth rolled over for two tries in ten minutes. The score was 17 - 0 after 15 minutes.

But Frome began to gain some parity and time on the ball. Zach Sibley and Archie Pearn combined well in midfield. Successive carries by Ewan Cox and Stickley stretched the defence and Cox carried over the line for his first try.

After twenty minutes, Newbery and Harry Greenwood combined well from the back of a line out and Toby Cassidy was narrowly tackled short of the line.

Over the next ten minutes, the game was played between both teams 22 and in the final minutes only heroic tackling from centres Cassidy and Kieran Stacey held the ball up.

HT Score: Bournemouth RFC 17 - 5 Frome RFC

The second half started with a weaving run by Pearn and hard line by Stacey. This gave Cassidy space to finish expertly, Pearn converted the kick to make the score 17 - 10.

From the resulting kick off, prop Harry Millard carried hard and popped inside to Phelps; the flanker beat two defenders to romp home to score.

Bournemouth spent the next few minutes attacking - but Frome were able to repel this attack. Aelfric Bidder stripped the ball on the line and Cox sprinted 80 meters down the wing to score his second try of the game. Pearn converted and Frome went into the lead for the first time, 17 - 22 a lead they would never surrender.

With 50 minutes on the clock, second-row Jack Grant turned the ball over and Cox crashed over for his hat trick, with the score at 17 - 29.

Greenwood then put the game beyond doubt. Following a strong scrummage, the ball was moved wide, once recycled the Number 8 scored to complete an excellent comeback.
