Residents at Frome's Critchill Court care home are sharing heartfelt messages of love and hope with their loved ones during the coronavirus lockdown.

With contact limited to phone and video calls, carers at the Somerset Care home helped residents make reassuring message cards to show family and friends they are safe and well.

A spokesman for Critchill Court said: "Individually and collectively the photo messages made for a very moving and emotional experience, not only for the intended recipients, but also touching many more people far and wide.

"The current climate is a testing time for all of us, with the restrictions on our daily lives challenging our freedoms and human desire for social interaction.

"This is the small sacrifice we have to make in order to help protect both each other and the wonderful key workers who continue to make a far bigger sacrifice on behalf of all of us.

"At Somerset Care these protocols are presenting challenges across all of our services, with the main priority to ensure the safety of colleagues and the continuity of care to those who desperately need our support every single day.

"Yet, despite all the challenges, Critchill Court is demonstrating a gritty determination to serve up as close to business as usual, even in these highly unusual circumstances.

"With severe visitor restrictions in place, contact with loved ones is limited to phone and video calls.

"However, with the help of the wonderful carers, residents were able to create and present reassuring and heartfelt messages for their loved ones on the outside."

The spokesman added that both Critchill Court and Rowden House, also in Frome, are extremely grateful to the local community for the "overwhelming" support and generosity they are receiving during the coronavirus outbreak.
