Mendip District Council are hosting climate action events for residents to learn, discuss and share ideas on how to tackle climate change together.

The Council is seeking feedback and engagement from local people to help steer the future direction of the district's climate emergency work.

The two evening events planned for Frome and Wells will include a presentation about why Mendip has declared a climate emergency and how they are planning to respond to it.

A number of organisations and groups - including Somerset Waste Partnership, the Centre for Sustainable Energy, IDDEA, Sustrans, the NFU and Sustainable Frome – will be stallholders at the events, providing residents with information and advice on a range of topics from recycling to solar panels.

Mendip District Council has identified climate change as one of its top three priorities to focus on. It declared a climate emergency in February last year and is taking ambitious steps to becoming carbon neutral by 2030.

Mendip also recently published a report on the district's carbon footprint which found that:

· 25% of emissions come from energy used to heat and power our homes

· 34% of our carbon footprint is from transport

· The average carbon footprint in Mendip is 8 tonnes of carbon per person (this doesn't include carbon embodied in the goods and services we buy)

Cllr Tom Ronan, Portfolio Holder for Strategic Policy and Climate Change, said: "These events will provide an excellent opportunity to share our climate emergency plans with the public and enable Mendip residents to have their say."

The first drop-in event will be this evening Tuesday, 3rd March (tonight) in Frome Town Hall from 6pm.
