In her latest column the Frome Mayor writes:
It was especially exciting for me to attend the re-opening of the DFIP (Discover Frome Information Point). I was a volunteer for DFIP until I was elected to the Council in May 2019. Up until that point, I had loved interacting with residents and visitors who were keen to learn about Frome and everything it offers. It's a hub of information offering event and activity leaflets, postcards and many other artefacts for sale. It also provides lots of online information which you can find at www.discoverfrome.co.uk This week I chose to wander around the Wednesday market that's held in the Market Yard and spoke to several stall holders about what they're experiencing, and the changes they've seen since lockdown began. I always appreciate it when traders take the time to talk to me because it gives me a real insight into the heart of Frome businesses. There's been an enormous amount of work done by Council staff to encourage people to check on their nearest five neighbours during lockdown. As a consequence, several neighbourhood groups have flourished, and we'd like to see even more. If you'd like to represent your street to talk and join with the many others in Frome to share ideas – we'd love to hear from you, just register online here www.frometowncouncil.gov.uk/neighbourhood-groups-across-frome
FHFF (Fair Housing for Frome) is very aware of the possible impact of the forthcoming end to the eviction ban at the end of September. To this end, FHFF set up a table in the Westway Precinct at the weekend to hand out leaflets, hear about peoples' stories and offer advice about where to turn for help. We're also seeking to understand more about different types of homelessness including not only those who are outdoor sleepers but those who are struggling with rent payments and the many who are considered to be the 'hidden homeless' – the sofa surfers. There is much work to be done, but the team at Fair Housing is totally committed and passionate about finding as many ways to help as possible. To understand more about this work and to check out the Frome Housing notice board which features property for rent and requests for housing go to the Fair Housing for Frome Facebook page,The school holidays are nearly over now, but there are still lots of activities that young children and adults alike are looking to engage in. If you're looking for ideas for groups and clubs to join there's plenty on offer locally, take a look at the Frome Town Council website.
The cooler weather and darker nights are both closing in now, so stay warm, stay safe, and enjoy your week.
