It was another tough match for the Frome RFC 2nd XV on Saturday as Royal Wootton Bassett RFC 2nd XV made the trip the The Lane off the back of a massive win against Swindon. But Frome were in a confident mood as well following recent results.

Straight from the off the Frome scrum looked like it was going to give the visitors a problem and with Fly Half Ben Eley taking to the boot with a probing kick, the home side looked to be winning the opening exchanges, with pressure being put on the Royal Wootton Bassett Half Backs by returning Flanker Matt Smith.

But on 11mins it was the away side that got the first points, with Frome giving away a penalty when a player got isolated was deemed to be holding on, the visitors Fly Half stepped up and took the 3 points.

This seemed to wake up the Frome attack and they pinned Royal Wootton Basset back into their 22, with Flanker Gordon Grieson charging down an attempted exit kick. This lead to Outside Centre Cory Plumridge making a break in midfield, and with the visitors giving away a penalty, Flanker Griesons quick thinking lead to him taking a quick tap and crashing over for the try. Unfortunately Eley's conversion attempt went just wide.

Another good kick by Fly Half Eley put Frome into the oppositions 22, where they camped out for the next few phases and with some good support play Royal Wootton Bassett couldn't win the ball back legally which lead to another penalty.

This time the ball was put to the corner, and following a great catch and drive the Frome pack pushed over the line, with Prop Jason Barraclough coming up with the ball. Again the conversion attempt went just wide.

The break saw changes with Second Row Connor McPherson coming on for Ali Fisher.

McPherson made an impact from the off, catching the restart and running hard at the defence. Frome and Royal Wootton Basset then tested each others defence, with great carries by Captain,No. 8 Rob James, the Front Row of Mark Regler, Phil Clarke and Barraclough.

With Inside Centre Matt Warnock organising the defence well, there were great covering tackles by Winger by Ed Darwent and some fine return runs by home debut Full Back Leone Naucukidi.

On 53mins Frome got a line out, 5 metres out. Frome went for the catch and drive and again the visitors couldn't cope with the great work by and Prop Jason Barraclough touched down again, the kick being missed.

This also saw Jamie Smith come on for Kyle Williamson on the Wing and the welcomed return of James Gallop, coming on for Gordon Grieson.

On 73 mins Frome were pushing for the bonus point and again went for the corner from a penalty. From the resulting line out, the Homeside caught and drove again with the same result and Barraclough secured his hat trick try. A tough kick again saw the ball just go wide.

It was now Frome's turn to defend and Royal Wootton Bassett pushed hard and from an unlucky line out jump the ball bounced unkindly and the visitors managed to touch the ball down despite the best efforts from Frome.

Royal Wootton Bassett pushed hard again to try and get a bonus point, but Frome were determined and showed why they have one of the best defences in the league and kept out the visitors until the final whistle.
