Frome Council Matters meeting : Fireworks highly unlikely : But maybe a wedding to celebrate?
Councillors have been told that the chance of a big firework display later in the year is " highly unlikely".
Frome Town Council hosted its regular meeting on line and was responding to a question from a member of the public.
The answer was not due to financial constraints said Town Clerk Paul Wyne: " But because of time .. it will take a long time to get ready and now we probably don't have the time to organise such a big event in the circumstances."
Councillors were also updated on the status of the Town Hall, which has been given a deep clean.
The marketing and communication manager Rachel Griffin, while reporting that it was sad that the Town Hall was currently empty of visitors and staff - and therefore had lost revenue - revealed that she had just heard some news: " I have just heard that a couple have booked to have their wedding in the Town Hall.
It is still pretty tentative but they are hoping to have their wedding there in ten days time."
Meanwhile she revealed that the Hall cafe is being used as a antibody testing centre for NHS and care workers, but there is still currently no coronavirus testing centre in Frome. The nearest remains the testing centre in Odd Down on the edge of Bath.
Earlier councillors were given an update on the financial state of the Town Council and learned that there is an anticipated additional cost during the coronavirus pandemic of £70,000.
Councillors were told that an application has been made to Mendip Council for additional support but until this is forthcoming " We are in a holding pattern."
