The first PE lesson streamed live today (April 15) by Frome's answer to Joe Wicks has already been viewed more than 1,500 times.

Hundreds tuned in to watch Ian Grove's Facebook Live lesson at 11am, held in glorious sunshine in his back garden.

And the half-hour session also raised £255 for NHS Charities Together, currently supporting staff and volunteers caring for coronavirus patients.

Ian's lesson, designed for four to nine-year-olds but suitable for any age including adults, focused on improving agility, balance and coordination.

Even his cats - sisters Minty and Margo - couldn't resist getting in on the action and made several guest appearances.

Ian told Frome Nub News: "I think it went well, although I was rather nervous having never streamed live before.

"As long as everyone who watched enjoyed it and got moving I am happy.

"I will be holding a live lesson every Wednesday for the foreseeable future, alternating the time each week between 11am and 2pm. So next week it will be 2pm."

Ian runs IG Sports Coaching, providing PE lessons for a host of primary schools and nurseries - including several in Frome - during term time and fun holiday clubs for youngsters aged four to 11.

When non-essential businesses had to close due to the coronavirus lockdown, Ian initially started online PE lessons via YouTube hoping it would provide an income for his 15-strong team.

After the Government stepped in to enable him to furlough staff he continued with two online primary PE lessons and one pre-school session a week, giving all money donated by viewers to NHS Charities Together.

"We've now raised a total of £495 for NHS Charities Together and I'd love to get to £1,000 with the future live and recorded YouTube videos," added Ian.

Today's live lesson - and future ones - can be watched on IG Sports Coaching's Facebook page here: the IG site. where there is also a donate button.
