The Frome Brewing Company on Marshall Way is keeping the business going, the yeast active* and is even been able to increase the number of staff it has employed.

The company has pivoted from supplying pubs to consumers via an online shop in double quick time.

Yesterday (April 7) the company was able to brew up and keep the yeast alive, and it has employed a new driver, Ollie, to help with deliveries as his home maintenance company has been put on hold.

With the sales pitch "If you can't go to the pub…the pub will come to you" they started a new doorstep beer delivery service.

The company saw its fortunes tunes with the coronavirus lockdown, but rose to the new challenges.

They said: " Many business have turned away from mass-production and returned to a more local and individual service. Frome Brewing Company is a great example of this. "

Historically, the Frome-based brewery owned by long-term Frome resident Rik Lyall, has supplied local pubs, markets and outside events.

Rik told Nub News: "After the pubs were ordered to close on 20th March I was faced with two stark choices: either 'furlough' my employees, or transform my business to fit the current climate. While I can claim for some business relief from the Government, that money won't come through until the end of April and I need to keep the cash flowing so I can pay my staff.

"It seemed obvious to me," he continued, "that opening a web shop and doing deliveries direct to customers was the best way to safeguard my employees' jobs and also make sure my loyal customers can still enjoy their pint on a Friday night – albeit in the comfort of their own living room!"

Frome Brewing Company was already providing mini-kegs and cans at local markets, such as the Frome's Independent Market, and so he had a perfect way to ensure his beer gets to his customers quickly and easily.

He collaborated with another Frome-based business, Webzang, to rapidly set up an online shop in a few days and two weeks on he is pleased to report that business is flourishing.

"It's obviously very scary to completely change your business model but we are in strange times and I have been overwhelmed by the support of the fans of my beer, and also many new customers who have been inspired to try it out with Easter offers and a new 'buy your mate a beer' gift card scheme so you can still be sociable about it.

"People are suddenly keen to order things online and our delivery drivers have been fantastic and obviously take all necessary precautions to deliver our beer safely in accordance with Government guidelines. We leave the deliveries on your doorstep but ensure we keep customers informed about exactly when and where the delivery is as customer service is top of our list of priorities."

The company have a variety of styles of beer to suit all tastes – from light lager-style beers to darker more complex ales. All with witty names, including 'Beer', 'Gulp', 'Same Again' and 'Funky Monkey' .

Frome Brewing Company is offering free delivery to all BA11 postcodes and national delivery is only £10 so people anywhere in the UK.

The code is "10%-APR20": 10% off from their web site here: To browse the online bar head here to put in your order and even buy your mates a beer.

  • The boss explained to Nub News : We were able to brew yesterday so we could keep our 'house yeast' alive. We use or 'pitch' it from one brew to the next. It gives our beers their characteristic flavours.
