In planning decisions passed by Mendip this week:
The Old Bath Arms is being renovated and re-ordered after planners approved a series of plans which include a new look to the outside seating area, changes in the signs and extra screens.
The central Frome pub, which is Grade II listed, put in the application under its formal address of number 1 Palmer Street.
Planners learned that the Bath Arms was renamed in around 1830 after previously being first listed around 1774 as the Weymouth Arms. In 1886 the small breweries of Badcox, Bath Arms and the Castle amalgamated into The Frome United Breweries Company Ltd. and in 1899 the then Lord Bath sold the freehold of the pub, that bore his name, along with the brewery site, to the company for £5,000. The pub continued until June 1959 when it was closed, after which it remained vacant for many years until it was reopened as a restaurant in 1975. It was taken over by its current owner in 2012.
The agreed renovations will also include the relocation of the main bar into the front room on the first floor. Externally, the current plastic and acrylic pub signs are being replaced. Other details are under Ref. No: 2020/2108/LBC.
