The central Post Office in Frome closes up THIS week

It is the last week this week for the central Frome Post Office within the Westway in the centre of town.

The centrally-based post office has been alone in the premises in the Westway since the Co-op store withdrew in June 2021.

At that time it was unclear if the Post Office at the back of the store would remain.

It did continue, and made repeated calls for customers to keep using it, but dwindling numbers and the increasing cost of running it in terms of electric and rates, have forced a decision. They told customers on social media in the middle of last month that the last day would be this week, Friday, September 9. All the staff will return to Portway Post Office .

Meantime a second post office in Frome is also closed at the moment. The Post Office in the Spar on Rodden Road is currently shut, with plans to re-open with separate staffing detail on Monday September 12.

Until now the staff for the small supermarket were also working at the Post Office counter.

The news that it would be re-opening was welcomed with many fearing that too would be closing for good.

Comments included:

Really pleased we still have a PO service there as we use it a lot.

Rodden Road is always busy and the staff are very pleasant.
