Frome's mini version of the Independent Market - a Little Night Market - due tonight alongside the Christmas Tree light up has been cancelled.

The market, first held in the summer and really popular with visitors was due to be held in outside the library from 4pm.

That has been cancelled but Frome Town Council insists that the other festivities due this evening will go ahead.

They posted on social media at midday: " Lots of cafes are staying open & doing their thing to keep you warm and fed & we've got plenty to keep you entertained & get you into the Christmas spirit."

Many festive events across the UK have been cancelled due to the arrival of Storm Arwen later when some areas are being warned to expect winds of up to 90mph. The Met Office has issued a red warning the highest level, which is issued only rarely, meaning there is potentially a risk to life. But the worst of that wind is forecast for parts of north-east England and Scotland, running from 15:00 to 02:00 GMT on Saturday. Elsewhere there is an amber warning, with winds of 60 to 75mph. Frome Town Council's events tonight start at 5pm by the Boyle Cross with the lantern parade.
