The Frome RFC 3rd XV kicked off the new year with a home fixture when they welcomed Midsomer Norton RFC 3rd XV to The Lane.

The visitors were first on the scoreboard within three minutes when they dotted down over the try line.

Frome early score woke up the home side and they took the game to Midsomer Norton with some grata phase play.

The possession soon turned to points when Centre James Gallop set up his Centre partner Jamie Smith for an unconverted try under the posts on 15 minutes.

The visitors continued to threaten with some well placed kicks which were handled well by Fullback James Goldstraw. But a mistake in the midfield saw Midsomer Norton go over for there second try.

The visitors got off to the better start in the second half with a penalty to go 8 ahead up on the 50 minute mark.

Frome's Ben Sheppard continued to be a thorn in Midsomer Norton's side with some superb turnovers and chopping tackles, Frome took the game to the visitors.

A great attacking play from a scrum saw the ball move wide to Gallop, who set up young Winger Max Stickley for a try in the corner, this time Toby Reilly finding the target to convert.

With five minutes remaining on the clock and Frome being down 2 points, some good possession and field play saw Frome kick over the top. The chase saw a good tackle and hackle on the ball, with Frome being awarded a penalty at the breakdown.

Reilly stepped up to slot the kick cleanly to help Frome take the lead.

The final minutes saw a good battle between the two sides, but Frome held firm to take the win.
