Frome RFC 28 - 24 Dorchester RFC
Report by Trevor Osborne
Frome RFC welcomed Dorchester RFC to The Lane on Saturday looking to improve on the previous week's performance.
The home side started strongly with the Forwards carrying hard and Luke Taylor at Flyhalf bringing the backs into play. The first score of the day came when an indiscretion at the breakdown by the visitors was punished with a penalty in front of the posts converted by Full Back, Max Stickley.
Dorchester then came back into the game and after a period of pressure, and scored a converted try to take the lead.
The Frome backline continued to look dangerous with Centres, Cory Plumridge and Ethan White making ground.
The first Frome try came when Winger Rob Sully collected a kick out of defence and broke forward to set up the attack, Winger Simon Finch then burst through a gap to touchdown.
The visitors regained the lead when their scrum half broke from the base of a ruck and fed the supporting player to score close to the posts for a converted try.
Frome now put pressure on the Dorchester defence and refined the lead when Luke Taylor kicked down field and the defender failed to gather the ball, Cory Plumridge gathered the loss ball and off loaded to Simon Finch to score a try converted by Max Stickley.
The first half scoring was completed by another Stickley penalty. Frome led 18 -12 at half time.
HT: Frome RFC 18 - 12
Dorchester started the second half strongly and took the lead with a well worked try which was duly converted.
The home side worked the ball up the slope and from a line out No.8 Alex Mallon crashed over for the lead.
Dorchester continued to press and regained the lead when their mercurial Winger broke down the sideline and side stepped the covering defence to score and give the visitors a 1 point lead with 5 minutes remaining.
Frome managed to regain the ball on the Dorchester half and after some great carries by Murray White and Alex Mallon the ball came out to Cory Plumridge who beat a couple of defenders to crash over in the corner and give Frome the lead.
Dorchester collected the ball from the kick off but a steal at the breakdown by Rob Sully allowed Frome to kick to touch and see the win out.
FT: Frome RFC 28 - 24 Dorchester RFC
Player of the Match was awarded to Winger Rob Sully.
There is a gap in league fixtures this Saturday, with the squad taking a well earned rest before travelling the Coast to face another stern test at Swanage & Wareham RFC.
