Report by Will Pearn

The Frome RFC Academy hosted Chard RFC Colts at The Lane on this blustery Sunday afternoon in front of a packed crowd.

Frome chose to play up the slope in the first half with big carriers from Nick Powell and Kayden Henley. The game was evenly posed until Frome broke the deadlock on the 12th minute mark, Freddie Corp stopped millimetres from the line, and the ball was recycled quickly with Rufus Phelps smashing his way thank you, thank over line.

Both teams would get an even amount of ball over the next 10 minutes, but it would be Frome who would strike again. Archie Pearn stepping 2 players to offload to Issac Cornish, Cornish would unleash Phelps to score his 2nd try under the post. Pearn would add the extras.

Fromes discipline would waver leading to a penalty on there 5m line the visitors would crash over for there 1st try.

Frome where putting pressure on the Chard attack that would lead to a turnover, Cameron Vince would unleash the back line, Centre partnership of Toby Cassidy and Zach Sibbly worked well together through the midfield, eventually pressure mounted and the home side would gain a penalty near the Chard try line, Neo Davies could see a hole in the Chard defence and quickly tapped and went, thundering over the line for his 1st try of the season. Pearn would kick the conversion.

Frome would get a little complacent before the break again, conceding a penalty deep in their half, the visitors successfully kicking for goal.

Frome made many changes at half time, including the introduction of a fresh pack.

It wouldn't take the visitors long to get on the score sheet with a well-timed interception to narrow Frome's lead.

Kieran Stacey would steal a Chard Lineout, which saw Vince pass to Fin Van Gorph who enjoyed a mazy solo run, the ball was passed to power house Olly Andrews who ran a dominant line.

Vince would again unleash the back line who ate up metres of the pitch. Fromes winger Harrie Webster would get inside the oppositions 22m line. Again, the forwards  carrying hard. This gave scrum half, Vince room to snipe for his try. Van Gorph would add the extras.

Both teams played route one rugby for long periods of the 2nd half, with both teams putting in big hits both in attack and defence.

Another quick tap and go penalty would spring Fromes attack into go-go mode, Fromes full back Brennan Doyle passing to Will Ibbitson to score a well worked try in the corner.

Chard would close the game out with the last try of the day with a well worked try of their own.
