Frome RFC welcomed table topping Matson RFC to Gypsy Lane on Saturday, in a rearranged game looking to build on recent improved performances, but knew a tough game would be on the cards as the visitors looked to continue their unbeaten run.

The home side started well putting the visitors under pressure with all the Forwards carrying hard.

Frome took an early lead when Matson were penalised at the break down and Full Back Henry Bull converted the penalty.

Matson showed why they were top of the table and responded with a well worked try out wide.

Frome continued to press, and after a break by Winger Bailey Rusz he released Eliki Bainimoli who chipped ahead down the right hand side and touched down for Frome to regain the lead.

The visitors then fought back and two tries before half time gave them a 17-8 half time lead.

HT: Frome RFC 8 - 17 Matson RFC

Matson pressed hard and scored the bonus point try after a period of pressure despite some great defence by Frome lead by skipper Alex Mallon and his fellow Back Row of Sam Bartlett and Josh Hills.

Frome thought they had got back to within one score when Scrum Half Garrie Webster had crashed over from close range but was adjudged to have knocked the ball on, much to disappointment of the Frome Faithful.

Matson then built more pressure to score again.

The Frome pack built a great platform from a line out which saw replacement Front Row Phil Clarke burrow over from close range.

A late score by Matson put a gloss on their win but Frome had given the top side a fright.

FT: Frome RFC 13 - 32 Matson RFC

Player of the Match was awarded to Winger Eliki Bainimoli.

Frome are at home this Weekend and will look forward to welcoming Chosen Hill RFC to The Lane.
