Chippenham RFC 40 - 7 Frome RFC
Report by Trevor Osborne
Frome RFC travelled across the border into to Wiltshire to face 2nd place Chippenham RFC looking to build on last week's win over Cheltenham.
The visitors started strongly and put pressure on the Chippenham line but the home side turned the ball over and broke away for the first score of the game with the Chippenham Flanker crossing over for a converted try.
The home side increased their lead when they won a penalty and from the ensuing line up their pack set up a maul which allowed the hooker to dive over from close range.
Frome's only score came when Winger Bailey Rusz made a break and released Full Back Henry Bull 50 metres out who beat 4 defenders to score a converted try under the posts.
Chippenham hit back immediately with 2 more tries. Frome then spent time on the Chippenham line with Sam Bartlett ,Bailey Brook and James Howard all carrying strongly but resolute defence kept Frome at bay .
HT: Chippenham RFC 21 - 7
Frome started the second half confident they could get back into the game but two more tries from the Wiltshire side increased their lead.
Frome we're then hit with a string of injuries, resulting in multiple players having to play out of position, Frome continued to battle and some great defensive tackles by skipper Alex Mallon, Flanker Sam Bartlett and replacement Wes Masters prevented any further scored by Chippenham.
FT: Chippenham RFC 40 - 7 Frome RFC
Player of the Match was awarded to Sam Bartlett.
Despite the scoreline it was another improved performance by Frome who now look forward to welcoming table topping Matson RFC to The Lane on Saturday.
