The Frome RFC 3rd XV were finally back in league action on Saturday when they welcomed Keynsham RFC 3rd XV to The Lane.

The game started well for both sides showing some great attacking intent. The first scrum was awarded to Frome, and the pack set a great platform for the backline to get moving, Full Back Jamie Eveleigh breaking through several would be tacklers.

Keynsham gained a penalty shortly after for a high tackle, but with the kick not finding touch Forward Rich Phillips returned the ball hard, breaking down the wing shrugging off multiple tacklers, only to be brought down just before the half way line.

The Frome pack were working tirelessly, with Hugh Haines making some big carries, supported by his front row team of Gordon Grierson and Will Witt.

Despite playing long spells in the Frome 22, it was the home side who were first on the scoreboard, following a break by Scrum Half Ryan Withey the team built good phases, and a break down the blindside saw Mitch Phillips dive over in the corner. Toby Reilly's conversion attempt going just wide. (5-0)

Keynsham continued to threaten with their large pack gaining metres and their spritely backline causing problems.

On 30mins, after a barrage of drives to the line, Keynsham came close but a steal meant the home team could clear their lines, the ball however landed in the arms of the opposition winger who beat his man to dot down in the corner for the visitors. The kick going wide. (5-5)

30mins Keynsham try, after pressure close to the line, Frome still the ball and attempt a clearance kick but falls into the Keynsham wingers hands and he runs wide to score in the corner. (5-5)

The rest start didn't go 10, and a scrum to Keynsham was followed with a kick down field to touch. Frome's lineout was working well, and the ball moved out to the backline.

Fly Half Reilly found Centre James Gallop who broke through the defensive line untouched, making his way to the half way line, before offloading to support runners and Frome made their way into the opposition 22.

With both sides playing hard, tempers flared and Grierson was awarded a yellow card.

The final few minutes of the half saw Frome produce some good plays, with James Orman and Jamie Smith both making valuables yards.

HT: Frome RFC III 5 - 5 Keynsham RFC III

It was the visitors who came out the blocks firing and score in the opening minutes with the Full Back dancing through. Kick added (5-10)

The homeside came straight back, and a pick up by Steven Ruddick in opposition half, saw him go close to scoring but was brought down just short, but an offload to Winger Malcolm Loftus saw the Winger five over for the try. Kick missed (10-10)

With the opposition tiring the Frome forwards worked well towards try line and after several catch and drives, it was Prop Witt who picked an dived over for the score, Reilly adding the kick. (17-10)

Large parts of the half saw a wresting match between the forwards, but following a dominant tackle by replacement Phil Clarke saw the ball spill and Reilly seeing the space kicked the ball downfield, which saw Loftus pop up again to score. The kick was added (24-10).

Frome were able to find space again and built phases close to the line and a trademark run from Clarke saw him crash through to score a  converted try. (31-10)

A huge thank you to visitors Keynsham and the referee for a great game.

FT: Frome RFC III 31 - 10 Keynsham RFC III
