Spectators at The Lane witnessed an excellent, bruising game of U16 rugby. It began with swift attacking from Frome. Bournemouth's defence held firm in the face of over five minutes of sustained attack, and the away team actually took the lead with an opportunistic try against the run of play.

There were repeated indiscretions by the away team and the penalty count was very high. With 10 minutes on the clock, a dominant tackle from Olly Merritt and then Harry Greenwood, let to a turnover for Flanker Kieran Stacey. But Bournemouth cleared from near their line.

The try Frome deserved came minutes later. After a clean line out from the home side, scrum-half Alfie Newbery combined with Greenwood. This strike move fed the backs. Archie Pearn orchestrated a move in the midfield that put Harrie Webster into space. The centre used his pace, to glide past the defence and score powerfully in the corner.

Flanker Alfie Rayers and Toby Cassidy were amongst the action, tackling and rucking powerfully in a breathless end of the half. A tense half ended with the away team scoring from a dominant scrum, to take the half-time score to 5 - 10.

The second half, in front of a roaring crowd was again a confrontational one, with no quarter given by either defence. Liam Backhurst and Stacey worked together to generate a turnover, which put pressure on Bournemouth. Again, they strayed offside and Frome took a shot at goal. Fly-half Pearn nailed the penalty and took the score to 8 - 10. But minutes later the away team again used their scrum dominance to drive over from close range. A successful conversion extended their lead to 8 - 17.

However, the lead would be cut short minutes later. Webster fed Zach Sibley and he carried strongly around the defence and gave the ball inside to Aelfric Bidder. Bidder slalomed through the defence to score under the posts. The added extra's gave the crowd a two point game.

With minutes left on the clock, Frome had the last laugh. Following sustained Frome pressure, Webster stole the ball on the floor. He swerved past the defence and ran a brilliant diagonal line to score in the dying moments of the game. The final score of a tense and exciting game was a Frome win; 22 - 17.

Players of the Match: Kieran Stacey and Harrie Webster
