Opportunities missed - As Frome RFC tackle Walcot

On Saturday a combination of Frome RFC's 2nd XV & 3rd XV combined for a preseason warm up fixture against Bath based side, Walcot RFC.

It was the visitors who kicked off, and from the outset showed there intent on moving the ball around. Frome we're able to withstand the attacking plays with the Walcot Fly Half turning to aerial plays to get behind Frome.

The home side were able to respond well, and secured the ball at the lineout to generate phases of play before losing the ball at the breakdown.

The visitors looked to move the ball wide but an interception by new signing Henry Bull saw the winger breakaway into the opposition 22. Unfortunately Walcot we're quickest to the breakdown and cleared their lines.

Captain David Abrahams commanded well from Centre and when the backline had opportunities were able to shift the ball effectively looking to threaten.

It was clear however there were certainly opportunities that went missing for both sides as a bit of rustiness showing with final passes not going to hand.

The Frome forwards began to link well, with Cameron Hastie, Jason Barraclough and Miles Davies having strong phases of play, gaining some much needed territory deep into the Walcot half.

However a high tackle from Centre Ethan White saw him sit out 10mins in the bin, the numerical advantage paid benefit when Walcot were on the scoreboard first when they found space wide to fit down.

Frome didn't let up and after gaining a scrum just inside the opposition 22, Scrum Half Garrie Webster spotted a gap and dived over. The conversion being chased down.

HT: Frome RFC 5 - 7 Walcot RFC

Frome made multiple changes coming into the second half and after 5mins Walcot found the width and we're rewarded with a try in the corner.

From the restart Frome's Liam Fletcher made a barn storming run up the wing getting back into the opposition half, and just as Frome looked to build towards another score the Walcot No.7 was penalised at the breakdown and was given a yellow card being shown.

Unfortunately the penalty kick went wide, but all was not lost when Front Row Jason Barraclough crossed over shortly after with one of his devastating bursts through the line.

Walcot continued to threaten and we're over for the next points when a well worked set piece from the scrum saw them go wide again.

Frome continued to work hard all the way to the final whistle and after multiple attacks at the Walcot line, Second Row Mike Mellie crashed over from close range. The conversion went wide and the whistle was blown.

FT: Frome RFC 2nd/3rd 15 - 26 Walcot RFC

Man of the Match went to Centre Ethan White.

Next week Frome RFC 2nd/3rd play the return fixture when they travel to Bath to face Walcot.
