Well worth it : Jubilant scenes at Frome Town FC in an epic match

It was worth the nail biting penalty wait as Frome Town FC pulled out a spectacular result, beating Worthing in the second round of the FA trophy - all down to penalties.

That said the 2: 2 score line could have been very different, in favour of Frome, with The Robins playing the kind non stop, energising football that fans have come to love.

In the first half, there were plenty of near misses as a bewildered looking Worthing seemed at times surprised to be up against such a foe. The sides have big couple of league differences between them, so perhaps the Sussex side were thinking they could walk it against Frome,

How wrong they were.

The home side played out of their boots taking a one nil lead with a goal by Meakes just nine minutes into the game, in front of a boisterous, noisy, and big crowd.

Frome went into half time with that goal in their pocket, but a clearly rattled Worthing came out in the second half with a far more committed game.

The equaliser, when it came dampened the spirits of the crowd who were at that stage treated to some persistent drizzle, but they were soon cheering on their favourite Jon Davies who put them back in front at 63 minutes.

Then a was it, wasn't it goal moment... the crowd were sure the ball was in, but the goal was denied, which offered an opportunity to The Rebels.

But Frome continued to make it hard work, and it was only just in the closing moments extra time that Worthing pulled it back and at 2:2 the anxious wait for penalties began... then just when it looked all over, it was... the home crowd exploding as they got four penalties to Worthing's three.

And just look at what a thrill it was....

Nub News understands that not only was the match a fabulous watch, but that whatever happens in the next round, the side will be going home with some golden change, not small change either, and something very welcome at a club always watching its pennies.

It was billed as an epic match and for the 597 strong crowd it was exactly that.

The next home game for Frome Town FC is on December 2, against Exmouth.
