Frome welcomed Weymouth & Portland RFC to The Lane for the first time in a decade expecting a hard fought contest.

With all three senior sides at home for the first time season, a packed Clubhouse stood in solidarity to pay their respects with two minutes silence prior to kick off. A huge thank you to Kirstie Jones for playing the Last Post.

The home side started strongly and after some hard carrying by the Forwards, lead by Player of the Match, Alex Mallon and backed up by some incisive play by the Backline, Frome were awarded a penalty in front the posts which Winger Henry Bull converted.

The home side continued to press and after more slick passing orchestrated by Half Backs, Simon Westlake and Zach Bartlett the ball was worked wide for Winger Simon Finch to touch down.

Frome continued to dominate and after a move straight off the training ground, Ali Frost burst through to score under the posts for a try converted by Bull.

The third Frome try came when Flanker Sam Bartlett crashed over. The final score of the first half came after interplay between the Bartlett brothers saw Zach score the bonus point try.

The second half started with the Seasiders starting strongly and putting Frome under pressure but an interception by Sam Bartlett saw him dash 70 metres to score a converted try.

Weymouth & Portland continued to carry hard but the Frome defence held firm with the Back Row of Mallon, Josh Hills and replacement Rowan Walton putting in some great work. The visitors eventually gained reward for their second half performance when they crashed over from close range.

However from the kick off Tom Weston leaped above the visiting defenders to collect the restart from the resulting ruck the ball was moved to Zach Bartlett and his cross field kick was collected by Simon Finch to touch down for his second try.

Frome closed the game out without further score.

FT: Frome RFC 39 - 05 Weymouth & Portland RFC

I.M.S Limited Player of the Match was awarded to No. 8 Alex Mallon.

This weekend 5th place Frome welcome 7th place Combe Down RFC to The Lane in what's set to be another tough battle against the Bath based side.
