As a Metal Workshop Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting our Stainless Steel workshop manager and our small team based in the village of Wanstrow, Somerset. This is a 6-month contract, with an immediate start. There is the possibility that this term could be extended or become a full time permanent position.
Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:
- Assisting with fabrication and assembly.
- Maintaining a clean and organised workshop environment, including goods in and out.
- Some on-site installation work will be required alongside other team members. This may involve staying overnight. All accommodation will be arranged and paid for. On-site work will take place in poultry processing abattoirs, including on farms, game shoots, and large industrial factories.
- Operating machinery and tools with precision, safety, and under supervision.
- During busy times, picking and packing customer orders ready for dispatch.
- Managing and maintaining spares on the shelf.

- Enthusiasm for working with Stainless Steel and a keen eye for detail.
- Flexibility: Must be adaptable and willing to take on a variety of tasks.
- Happy to travel all over the country to visit customers and undertake installation work.
- A proactive attitude and willingness to learn new skills.
- Basic maths skills for measurements and calculations.
Requirements:
- Experience: Some welding, fabrication, or metal workshop experience would be beneficial but not essential, as on-the-job training will be provided.
- UK Passport: Helpful, as we have customers in Ireland, so there may be installation work abroad.
- Own transport: Due to the location of the site, candidates must have access to their own transport.

Job Type: Full-time, fixed-term contract with the potential to be extended or become permanent.
Pay: Up to £12 per hour, depending on age and experience.
Additional pay and benefits:
- Overtime and on-site pay.
- 30 days holiday pro-rata, including 4 days at Christmas.
Schedule: Monday to Friday.
