This July, the Environment Agency will be building a permanent watercraft launching site and lifting pad by the Roundhouse, Welshmill to help carry out essential maintenance to reduce flood risk in Frome.

The Environment Agency is working with Frome Town Council's Wild About Trees Officer, Helen Viner to plant seven trees in replacement of four that need to be removed: three Alder trees in the area adjacent to the Allotments and four more trees in Rodden Meadow.

Once the trees have been felled, the wood will be used by FTC for environmental projects in the town including the Woodland Play Project in Welshmill Woods.

The chippings from some of the tree removal will also be put to use in the local park as mulch.

Full Ecological surveys of the trees that need to be removed were carried out by ecologists and relevant permission from Somerset Council Tree Officers have been granted. Prior to the work being carried out, another ecological survey will be done to ensure there are no nesting birds in these trees.

Works will take place in July and during this time Environment Agency contractors' personnel and machinery will be working adjacent to the Roundhouse Park and Garden on the River Frome.
