Some outlets have asked The Merlin Theatre, Frome, for a statement regarding the new rules on face-coverings. As you will know, the Government require face coverings to be worn inside all theatres now by all audience members (except those with medical exemption).

The Merlin Theatre' s PR/marketing respresentative, Tracey Ashford of Lost Without Trace, has provided the following statement on behalf of The Merlin.

"Following the recent Government announcements, we are aware that some people will be relieved to know face-coverings are mandatory and others will be disappointed with this news. The rules have been made clear so we will be following them. During this difficult time when The Merlin's future remains precarious, following nearly two years of very limited ticket sales and income, our focus is on providing high-quality entertainment, a welcoming and upbeat environment for our community and a future for all those who enjoy being part of this very special place.

"We don't wish to silence debate and, of course, some of the greatest art, of all forms. has been born out of controversy, passion and even non-compliance but right now we feel very lucky to have the people of Frome supporting us by taking part in shows, buying tickets, volunteering, kindly offering (often anonymous) cash donations and visiting the building as our highly valued audience members.

"Our current focus is on making sure we are here next year and every year so, for now, we are "Masks on, curtain up and thank you, Frome."
