Global Climate Strike in Frome

By Guest

20th Sep 2019 | Local News

On a beautifully sunny and warm late summer mid-morning, a few people were gathered at Boyle's Cross in the centre of Frome, waiting for the Global Climate Strike - an enterprise initiated by the Swedish teen activist, Greta Thornburg, which has spread across 150 countries.

As the clock struck 11am, a throng of youthful activists descended out of the shadows from Cheap Street, chanting "what do we want? Climate action. When do we want it? Now!" and marched forth to encircle Boyle Cross, chanting over and over while donning banners that spoke of "fighting for our future" - before going on to block the road.

Boyle Cross was at the centre of the protest which was demanding that we get back to our senses and prioritise re-connection to and care for the natural world over pollutant industry and profit.
