Welcome the New Year in with a unique story about the ancient Yuletide tradition of the Boy Bishop... Suitable for children over 9. 7-9pm. Friday 12th January. (Doors open 6.30pm), Bar.
The Boy Bishop was a medieval tradition which overturned the natural order and put kids in charge, from St Nicholas on December 6, till Holy Innocents Day on December 22. This is the story of one of their number… Every Christmastide, Tom Thacker falls prey to an illness that no pills can cure. A snowstorm lands him in the cathedral city of Welchester, where he finds the answer to the mystery. But can he lay the ghost? And what is the connection with the Princes in the Tower? A retelling of Eleanor Farjeon's magical story A Perle in the Myddes,(1925) with medieval carols to sing, led by Guy Wilson.
Nicola Grove is a local storyteller who often performs in Frome. Guy Wilson lives in Frome and his song recitals are really popular.. from classical to folk. James Watts is a local musician who can turn his hand to anything - here he has composed incidental music with a medieval theme.
