Appalachian Dance & Flat-footing Workshop - from Buffalo Gals
The Tin Church, Brokerswood
UNTIL Saturday 9th July
Old-time & Bluegrass aficionados, Buffalo Gals are famed for their trade-mark Appalachian flat-footing dancing in their live shows. Complete beginner or with dance skills already, join some of the Buffalo Gals and have a go at Appalachian step-dance yourself! Sometimes called stomping or clogging, this style of dance originated from travellers, crossing the plains, settling in the Appalachian mountains of the USA where the dancers were the 'drummers' beating out syncopated rhythms with their feet, often accompanied by 'hamboning' where performers drum out percussion by hitting and slapping beats on their own bodies!
Sara Marshall-Rose is one of the best and most experienced flat-footers in the UK, accompanied by the mountain sounds of early country music, from selected Buffalo Gal's musicians, this is guaranteed to be a fun and invigorating workshop. One of the joys of this style is that it allows dancers to 'freestyle' - in other words to make it up as the mood takes you! So come and learn a few of the basic steps and once you've nailed to 'wagon wheel' and 'barnyard slide' you'll be dancing like the true American folk in no time. Tap shoes or Leather/hard-soled flat shoes are ideal … along with comfortable clothes but a willingness to enjoy yourself is more important! No experience necessary. Tea & Cookies included! 2.30pm - 4pm BOOKING ESSENTIAL
