Today is the first day of the special over 60s offer of a 10 per cent discount in Iceland which has a branch in the centre of the town.
Food poverty is a growing problem as prices continue to rise of basic foodstuffs.
On Social Media on Frome local has made a special thanks to one of the staff at a local supermarket who helped her out.
The case of the public and in some cases supermarket staff helping pay for shopping is growing across the UK with many reports in national media.
But this is the first time Frome Nub News has seen a case of such big hearted generosity in Frome.
They posted: " We would just like to thank the man working in Lidl's who paid for my shopping today, it was just a couple of things for our tea but my card was declined and my daughter bought some change with her that didn't cover the cost. It was embarrassing but he didn't make a fuss and I would just like to thank him for being so kind. "
Earlier this week John Allan, the chair of Tesco, said the supermarket was seeing " real food poverty for the first time in a generation". With many shoppers asked those at the till to stop scanning their shopping when it reached £40 because they didn't want, or couldn't afford, to spend more.
Last week, the new chief inspector of constabulary said officers needed to use their discretion more often when dealing with crimes of poverty, particularly when it comes to stealing to eat.
Today (May 24) the research group Kantar reported that more than a fifth of households in Great Britain say they are struggling to make ends meet as the price of the weekly grocery shop rises 7%, the highest level of inflation in 13 years.
