Six students at Mendip Studio School are in the finals of the Amazon Longitude Explorer Prize.

The six, coming from Radstock, Frome, Peasedown and Shelton Mallet joined together last October to develop a unique idea to introduce electronics to children in rainforest schools. What makes it special is that children in the rainforests will be able to build their own systems to collect that data, which can then be shared with schools globally to help learning and conservation.

The winners will be announced on July 15 but Ed Jones(head of finance for the team) said: "The project is already underway and we have partner schools in Peru, Rwanda and Malaysia."

The group are Rainforest DRAGeN Project and you can watch a video of what their project entails and vote for their project winning the 'peoples vote' here.

Winning the people's vote will give the team the cash they need to set the project in motion. (You will need to scroll down the page of projects to Rainforest DRAGeN Project)
