The central Frome Co-op was at lunchtime today (January 26) accepting card payments amid reports many other stores across the UK were experiencing IT issues.

The store in the Westway told Nub News that they have had no problems at any time.

Co-op and Morrisons supermarkets have suspended card payments and only taking cash as their payments in some shops with their payment provider ACI saying they are working as fast as possible to sort out a problem which started on Sunday.

ACI, which provides real-time payments processing for the retailers, told the BBC: "The current IT issues affect card payments at Co-op and Morrisons and we are working closely with the IT teams at both partners to resolve the problem as quickly as possible. We apologise to shoppers for any inconvenience caused."

In some stores, the problem was intermittent, impacting some payment card brands, but not others.

Today (January 26 ) the worldwide arm of ACI announced that it has been selected by the American Federal Reserve Banks to participate in the pilot program for its upcoming FedNow Service, a new real-time payments service.

The FedNow Pilot Program promises to allow thousands of financial institutions across the U.S. to provide secure real-time payment services to consumers and businesses.
