Over one hundred years of history in Frome - now organisers hope to raise much needed funds to keep the carnival circuit dazzling the crowds

It was once upon a time the biggest day event in the town, now The Frome Street Carnival Charities Association is hoping that an appeal for financial help will revive the glory days.
Due to the pandemic, fundraising opportunities have been scarce and carnival clubs have not been able to get together to build their entries.
So some of the Frome Street Carnival organisers have decided to walk every route on the Wessex Carnival circuit in the hope that people will sponsor them for doing so. The The Wessex Grand Prix Carnival Circuit comprises nine carnivals in eight towns : Mere, Frome, Shaftesbury, Gillingham, Wincanton, Castle Cary, Salisbury, Trowbridge and Warminster.
Walkers are hoping to raise much needed funds to keep the carnivals on the road, with each event costing many thousands of pounds including the expense of insurance.
They will be walking each carnival route on what would be each town's normal carnival day.
Any money raised will hopefully get the carnival back thrilling the crowds in 2022, when the carnival itself helps raise money for local groups and charities in and around Frome.
