Cervical screening saves lives

Frome Medical Practice has organised a Saturday morning cervical screening clinic, to take place on 3rd October from 8.30am – 12.30pm. This session, which is in addition to the usual cervical screening clinic times, aims to encourage women who are due or overdue their test to book an appointment.

A cervical screen, sometimes called a smear test, is an important test as it can help to prevent cervical cancer. It is offered to women between the ages of 25 – 64.

Lisa Coles, Clinical Nursing Lead at Frome Medical Practice said, "We know that accessing health care services has been a concern for some people during the coronavirus pandemic but we want to urge women that attending a cervical screen is still vitally important and we want to see you if you're due or overdue your appointment."

"We'd also like to emphasise that it's important to speak to us if you're worried about symptoms of cervical cancer, including bleeding between periods, during or after sex, or after you've been through the menopause or if you experience unusual vaginal discharge. Do not wait for your next cervical screening appointment to contact us about this."

Women who are due a test receive a letter to advise them to make their appointment. This can be done online (download the NHS App if you're not yet registered to use online services) or by calling 01373 301301 (after 2pm is generally quieter.)

Patients attending the practice for any appointment are currently being asked to wear a face covering. If you or someone you live with develops symptoms of coronavirus (a raised temperature, new continuous cough, loss of sense of smell or taste) then please contact the practice and your appointment can be rearranged.
