Renewed campaign to halt parking restrictions on key Frome Road but it may be too late

There is a new petition to ask Somerset Council to reconsider their plans to bring restricted parking, with pay meters to Weymouth Road in Frome.

Weymouth Road is currently free to park in for as long as drivers want, and critics say it is being abused by those parking all day. But it is also the road next to Victoria Park and critics of the plans say if it goes ahead it will stop less abled visitors enjoying the green space and events there.

As Frome Nub News reported the parking plans are not widely popular with many of those living in adjacent streets, who fear that cars will simply move into other areas and cause more parking chaos.

The petition is being organised by a resident of nearby Catherine Hill who is asking for a review of the plans.

That petition is HERE : it already has over 200 signatures

But the opponents have been warned that any protest may be too late, and that consultation on the proposals, which also included plans for restriction on local free to park areas, including Somerset Road, happened two years ago.

The parking meter was vandalised last summer HERE the Frome Nub News site in September 2021

and the plans did appear to have been put on hold. But two weeks ago parking poles were installed in the street, warning of the changes coming. One councillor added that the problem is more than just one street of restricted parking and that the problem is that simply Frome has too many cars and not enough parking spaces.
