New eligibility rules that will allow more men who have sex with men to donate blood, platelets and plasma come into effect this week, marking an historic move to make blood donation more inclusive while keeping blood just as safe.

Bringing TV Talent, Marvin Muoneké, to join a summer afternoon of vintage music at the Merlin, is international twelve-piece Down for the Count Swing Orchestra; calling in to Somerset for one show only in Frome.

Be prepared for an intoxicating outdoor afternoon performance on Sunday 20th June as one of the best-known London-based bands on the UK jazz scene bring a touch of local flavour, featuring guest vocalist Marvin Muoneké, who is based in Western-Super-Mare. Marvin Muoneké, seen on both Britain's Got Talent and The Voice, joins this brilliant line up professional vintage swing musicians to sing numbers from the legendary Rat Pack, including "I've Got You Under My Skin" and "That's Life".

On Thursday (June 10) much of the UK was treated to an eclipse, however locally cloud cover meant that Nub News, along with the local astronomy club, did not manage to get a photo.

One local enthusiast who did was Mike Read just over the border in Wiltshire.

The team at Somerset Community Foundation (SCF) are incredibly proud to announce that their Chief Executive Justin Sargent has been recognised with an OBE for services to the community in Somerset in the Queen's Birthday Honours list.

Somerset voters want two new unitaries rather than one. That's the resounding message from Mendip, and indeed from voters across all four district council areas.

Council leaders were quick to thank residents for their overwhelming support in the recent local poll, and for their clear choice for 'Stronger Somerset' – the plan for two councils, an Eastern Somerset and a Western Somerset council, to replace Somerset's existing five county and district councils.

Highways England is advising drivers that the M32 junction 2 northbound exit slip road will be closed next week for essential repair work.

During the closure, from 06:00 on Monday 14th June to 22:00 on Friday 18th June, traffic will be diverted via junction 1 and back onto the M32 southbound to exit via the junction 2 southbound slip road.

It was a huge challenge, but the walkers raising money for the late President of Frome Rotary, not only completed the huge scale walk, they smashed their fundraising target - by miles.

The walkers completed their walk on June 7 and were handed prayer shawls to mark the occasion, which saw them complete the Mendip Ring in honour of Karl Waldeck.

Over in Writhlington, you can look forward to their first public event since December 2019 - their Summer Orchid Evening on Monday 12th July.

The evening will be open from 4pm until 7pm with lots to see and do.
