New eligibility rules that will allow more men who have sex with men to donate blood, platelets and plasma come into effect this week, marking an historic move to make blood donation more inclusive while keeping blood just as safe.

From today (June 14) – World Blood Donor Day – the questions asked of everyone when they come to donate blood in England, Scotland and Wales will change. Eligibility will be based on individual circumstances surrounding health, travel and sexual behaviours evidenced to be at a higher risk of sexual infection.

Somerset voters want two new unitaries rather than one. That's the resounding message from Mendip, and indeed from voters across all four district council areas.

Council leaders were quick to thank residents for their overwhelming support in the recent local poll, and for their clear choice for 'Stronger Somerset' – the plan for two councils, an Eastern Somerset and a Western Somerset council, to replace Somerset's existing five county and district councils.

Work in underway to repair the M32 junction 2 northbound slip road following a major fire

Highways England is advising drivers that the M32 junction 2 northbound exit slip road will be closed next week for essential repair work.

During the closure, from 06:00 on Monday 14th June to 22:00 on Friday 18th June, traffic will be diverted via junction 1 and back onto the M32 southbound to exit via the junction 2 southbound slip road.
