Eleanor Thatcher and Martin Thatcher plant one of ten native coppice trees alongside the Strawberry Line for the Queens Green Canopy Campaign

Ten new native coppice trees have been planted by Thatchers Cider as part of the Queen's Green Canopy campaign to mark Her Majesty's Platinum Jubilee.

Martin Thatcher and his daughter Eleanor Thatcher planted the trees, which are accompanied by a commemorative plaque, alongside the popular Strawberry Line and adjacent to the family run cider mill at Myrtle Farm in Sandford.

February sees the launch of the 'Plastic Free.Period' campaign which is a collaboration between Frome Town Council and Frome Medical Practice and focusses on alternative, sustainable period products.

The project kicks off with a free event on Thursday 3rd February, 7pm – 8:30pm, hosted by Cecilia Allon, an Environmenstrual Ambassador for Women's Environmental Network. All are welcome to attend, either in person at Frome Town Hall or online.

An astonishing 46 couples have tied the knot at Frome Town Hall during 2021, which is quite a feat considering ceremonies only started up again in April following Covid-restrictions.

From small but perfectly formed ceremonies to larger celebrations of up to 80 family members and friends, Frome Town Hall caters for everyone. Unique touches make the venue extra special such as the chance to take photographs in the beautiful building, seasonal foliage displays and a dedicated and welcoming team member to support you on the day. Wedding guests can enjoy refreshments before the ceremony thanks to a licensed bar and if you book the final ceremony of the day, you will also be able to hire the Council Chamber for your reception.

The Bideford side had high ambitions

It was a red alert at the hill today (January 29) when The Robins fired up their engines in the second half of their game against Bideford to score twice in ten minutes.

Both teams had a battle on against some strong winds in the first half, which saw the North Devon side come up against some powerful boots and making a memorable clash of a pair of sevens.

A report finds Mayday Saxonvale's alternative plan for Saxonvale in Frome, which will provide 11,000sqm of new employment space, will support 570 additional jobs, generating a £10million boost to Frome's economy.

The report, an Economic Manifesto, was produced for Saxonvale, by PRD, a regeneration development consultancy, to support Mayday Saxonvale's outline planning application, which is due for determination in March 2022. Beyond the direct economic impact, the Economic Manifesto sets out a vision for the type of economy Saxonvale could foster, one "which builds on Frome's strengths and aligns with the town's spirit and ethos".

Fair Housing for Frome release findings from the 2021 Housing Needs Survey

In 2021, Fair Housing for Frome, with support from Frome Town Council, Mendip District Council and Frome Area Community Land Trust, commissioned a major town-wide Housing needs Survey. The survey was instigated following feedback from Frome residents, but, like so many projects, was delayed by covid restrictions which also reduced the group's ability to get out and about and talk directly to residents.
